Nole defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-2, 6-4 in 78-minutes to win his ninth title of the season!
Nole has won 38 of his last 39 matches played in the country. His only loss in that time period was falling to eventual champion Roger Federer in the Shanghai Rolex Masters semifinal last year.
Nole: “I think in terms of the two tournaments back-to-back weeks, this has been the best two weeks of my life, my career,” . “I think I’ve played the best tennis ever in these two weeks in terms of back-to-back. Honestly, that’s how I felt. Energy-wise, I was great. I didn’t get tired. I always had plenty of intensity, concentration, high performance level from the first match in Beijing to today’s match.”
“It’s the best year of my life,” Djokovic said post-match. “No question about it. Everything is working great. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to be able to play this well, to be successful.”
Djokovic monopolized the 31-minute first set in the final, racing to a 5-1 lead. Serving at 5-2, Djokovic served out the set at love.
Tsonga steadied in the second set and was able to keep even with the Serbian through to 4-4 in the set. That’s when the Frenchman finally teetered. Tsonga managed to save two break points in the ninth game, but on the third he double-faulted to put Djokovic in position to serve out the match.
As Djokovic did in the final game of the first set, he served out the match at love in that 10th game of the second set.
“Generally I felt always in control of the match,’ Djokovic said. “I felt like I’ve done everything right. I’ve won many of my service games very comfortably. Just didn’t allow him to get into the rhythm, get into the match. Today’s match, and overall the tournament, it’s gone incredibly well for me.”
