Novak Djokovic met with reporters for the first time at the Foro Italico Sunday May 11. After a week of training at his house, Nole has landed in Rome on Saturday (Photos of his first trainisession on our Facebook). His arrival has not gone unnoticed : as soon as he set foot on the court hundreds of fans were hunting for autographs.
Nole about his injury: ” Skip Madrid was tough, but I had to agree to do so. I gave up to avoid compromising subsequent weeks. If not treated properly , it could become chronic . There have been several cases of players whose problem was chronic , like Del Potro. Certain things need to be considered”. Now, it seems, everything is OK . Nole has trained in Belgrade, with increasing intensity . “I followed orders from my doctors , and before Madrid they told me that it was a risk I was not 100 % but 50%”. “I ‘ve never had anything like this in my career. I had no problems in the last five years, and in general I’ve always had a few problems. Of course, every body is different: it is very important to make the right choices. To Rome I did track , I hear more opinions as possible and I decided to come after the last training session , performed at maximum intensity . “
In Rome, Djokovic is accompanied both by Boris Becker and Marian Vajda: “It was expected that Boris was there. The idea of the double- coach was born as an idea in view of Paris , where I’ll be followed by both. Marian knows me , understands me and can help to understand me better. However, after seven years full-time , Vajda want to spend a little more time with his family”.
About Rafael Nadal: ” I do not think much has changed in him , indeed. Simply people expected him to win every tournament on clay, as it always has. He lost, but he’s playing well . And they beat good players. Of course , these results have given to other players hope to be able to beat on clay.”
About his opponent in the second round on Tuesday, Radek Stepanek: ” Congratulations to him , it is a tough player , able to serve and volley point after point . I will be 27 in few days.I hope,at Radek’s age,to play such amazing tennis. I hope so.”
About his love for the tournament in Rome. When asked what it feels like to train in front of 2,000 people ( perhaps they were even more, when he dribbled with Stanislas Wawrinka Field Pietrangeli ), said: “For me it’s always a great pleasure to play in Rome , I feel at home. Playing here is amazing , I want to thank the crowd. They are truly amazing”
Nole then congratulated Federer for the birth of the twins , informing that his baby will be born later this year (on October). “Now I will live this life, is an excellent source of joy.”. “We don’t know if our baby is male or female. We have an idea about the names but i can’t tell”
Andreas Seppi training with Nole and he said: “Yesterday i hit with Djokovic.I don’t know if he is at his 100% but he looks fine. His intensity during rallies was high”.
