Nikolay Davydenko retires and Novak Djokovic is through to Cincinnati QFs

Novak won the first set 6-0 in 31 minutes when Davydenko retired due to a shoulder problem.

For a brief moment it looked like this one could be somewhat interesting, with Djokovic having to fight off two break points in the first game of the match. But it was smooth sailing the rest of the way against a hopeless opponent. Davydenko double-faulted a ridiculous eight times in three service games as his Cincinnati run ended in abrupt fashion.

“I don’t want to win with the injury of my opponent, but i want to save as much energy as I can,” Djokovic said. “I know I’m not the freshest player in this tournament.”

“It’s never nice to win like that, it was obvious that he had problems as he wasn’t able to serve over 90 miles per hour,”

Novak will meet Marin Cilic for a place in the semi-finals on Friday at 1:00 pm local time.

Novak Djokovic took advantage of McIlroy’s presence at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament, asking him and fellow golf pro Sergio Garcia for some tips on improving his game.

“He was asking us, ‘With the driver your head is supposed to be behind the ball at impact?’” explained McIlroy. “We were like, ‘Well yeah, sort of, but don’t lean back on your right side. You have to come up, it’s just like tennis, you have to transfer your weight to your left side.’ So we just gave him a little bit of advice. He was going to hit some balls yesterday.”
